Our 2014 Season has begun!

April 21st, 2014
Outer Banks Wedding

What a wonderful start to our 2014 Outer Banks wedding season. It was a cold and blustery week and we were worried about our outdoor ceremony at the Manteo Lighthouse followed by an indoor reception at 108 Budleigh. The day ended up being the most beautiful day of the week, thankfully! Please enjoy these amazing pictures taken by Genevieve Stewart Photography which captured this 40’s inspired wedding for Tiffany and Adam.

Looking to save some money?

February 28th, 2014

If you are planning your own wedding at this time or have planned before you know that weddings can be expensive! We are here to help you save as much moolah as possible! After all, no couple wants to start their marriage off in debt!

The date: If you set your day for an off peak season, say November, January, February (excluding Valentine’s day) and March you’ll be saving a lot. The Spring, Summer, and Fall months excluding November are going to be your most popular so all of your vendors will up charge you, simply because they can.
The Venue: Instead of having your reception at a country club or a designated wedding reception hall, think about having it in a field, on the beach, a zoo, or a garden. If you decide to go with one of these or something like it, remember to calculate extra costs like bathrooms, tables, or a tent. We always try to help our OBX brides as much as we can with this.
Daytime reception: It’s always cheaper to serve a lunch or brunch rather than a formal dinner.  If you do decide to do a later ceremony, always remember you can have horderves, cake, and punch and still have perfectly happy guests.
Photography and Videography: They all have different packages you can choose! There is nothing wrong with choosing the smaller package. Designate a friend who is aspiring to be a photographer or videographer to cover the hours that the professional one is not present.
We hope this helps you save some green while planning your most special day!

Amanda and Ben are Engaged!!

February 24th, 2014

So, as you may have seen if you follow our Facebook page, Amanda is engaged!!

Ben surprised her Friday night with a dozen red roses “just because” and she unnamedthought that was just so sweet and didn’t have any red flags! He met with her Dad Friday afternoon and of course he gave Ben his blessing and proceeded to tell the whole family. Then Saturday morning Ben got down on one knee and popped the BIG question at home with their dog  Zoey. Amanda was so surprised she didn’t even really look at the ring until later! Ben even waited until her best friend from high school would be in town visiting to make it extra special for her! Since he did this Saturday morning they enjoyed mimosas while calling family and friends to share the news and then had all day to celebrate, and that they did!

She was so excited and we are SO excited for her!! The two of them are perfect for each other. We all saw it coming and we cannot wait to start planning our own OBX wedding for our own Sparkle OBX Bride!!

One of the most exciting things while planning your wedding is also planning your honeymoon! Think of this as your romantic getaway celebrating the most special thing in your life thus far.

It doesn’t matter if you stay in the country or venture out, either way we know you will have a wonderful time as husband and wife! (Tip- make sure your passport is up to date or you look into having one made, they can take months to receive back.)
storymaker-american-nature-getaways-slideshow4-515x418It’s good to choose a destination based on the season you get married. For instance, if you are getting married from November to March, you may want to choose somewhere tropical because you may be tired of this cold weather. Although you may enjoy the cold so go anywhere that makes the two of you happy!
Also, another tip is, let your soon to be husband plan the trip and surprise you on where you two are going. Let him tell you only days before the big day, so you’ll know what to pack, of course. If you want to give him little hints here and there, that’s totally fine but wouldn’t it be fun to not have to worry about the honeymoon while you’re planning/helping to plan the biggest day of your life so far?
imagesOur advice- leave everything at home when preparing for the honeymoon. Even if you have to leave your phone to do so-do it! Make sure you give a parent or someone close to you the resorts phone number just incase of  an emergency but other than that just RELAX! Make sure you do bring a camera though, you’ll appreciate these pictures and treasure them always.
Happy Planning!

Nail Art!

February 19th, 2014

Alright Brides – lets talk girly stuff like NAILS! Scheduling a manicure and pedicure is a great way to bond with your bridesmaids, Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom and other family members like Grandma’s and favorite Aunts! Nail salon’s are all use to having a Bride come in with many of her party to get their nails done but we just suggest you make an appointment! Outer Banks Brides especially want to make an appointment with a local salon since there are a limited amount here on the OBX instead of one on every block like in a more metropolitan area. There is nothing worse than walking into a salon late on a Friday afternoon asking for mani/pedis for twelve and they are already busy so everyone starts at different times. If you make a reservation at a nicer salon and let them know you are bringing your wedding party with you they may even provide champagne or a private room!

We just wanted to wrap up the Valentine’s Day series by sharing our own Valentine’s Day experiences. We wanted to let everyone know that there is no right or wrong way to do Valentine’s Day as long as you keep it about you two! Amanda and I had very different celebrations but we each stayed true to ourselves as couples and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Forever Valentines!

February 12th, 2014
Since this is our last post before Valentine’s Day we wanted to do something personal so you all can get to know us a little better! Amanda and I met at the beginning of Summer 2012 and I think we can both agree that  summer is definitely in the running for the best summer of our lives. In more ways than one- but the main reason is because we met our Valentines that summer :)

Be her Valentine

February 10th, 2014

Today’s post is for the guys who just don’t know what to do for their special someone. It happens… What us girls don’t understand is putting together that perfect Valentine’s Day stresses guys out more than we understand. So guys, I’m going to help out with some ideas for your Valentine!

Let me make something clear first- Valentines Day is not always about flowers, candy, and nice dinners. It’s also about sharing your love with all the people you care about. So make sure you give a call to the ones who matter most to you this year and tell them how much you think of them. It will make their day, I promise!

Here are a few ideas to get you on the right track for that Valentine of yours:
